The list that defined 2022.

Ego is the Enemy

9/10 - Highly recommend.

Overall, this book shifted how I see my goals, ambitions, and conflicts. It has given me perspective on how to navigate tough situations, build a solid mindset, and not be disillusioned by the opinions of others.

Educated

8/10 - Highly Recommend

This true story captures the power of education and the impact it will have on your relationships. I grew up in a non-extreme Mormon home and so seeing the parallels was fascinating and introspective. Regardless of faith and upbringing, Educated is an inspiring piece of work that will spark new ideas around family, faith, politics, education, and parenting.

Meditations

9/10 - Highly Recommend

Mediations is a collection of journal entries from the Roman Emperor Marcus Arelius. He never intended for his journal to be publicized, but his descendants quickly saw the value in his life story, journey, and principles of living that inspired generation after generation to preserve it. This book has laid the foundation for me as I have began my journey with learning about Stoicism. For anyone looking to learn about Stoicism, this book is a great introduction.

Checklist Manifesto

9/10 - Highly Recommend

Essential for workplace operations. If there are humans involved in a process, then a checklist is necessary. Don’t believe me? Read the Checklist Manifesto and your workflow efficiency will increase almost over night.

Dare to Lead

10/10 - ESSENTIAL

It wouldn’t be a year of books without Brene Brown. This book has changed how I interact with family, friends, and coworkers on the daily! Reading this felt like my brain was being reprogrammed! I feel like Jeff 2.0 was the product of reading this. I encourage anyone (working professional or not) to read this book.

The Martian

8/10 - Fun gymnastics for your brain

Purely fun and adventure. If you liked the movie, you will probably like the book! I love the narrative as Mark Watney (astronaut stranded on Mars) problem solves his way through what seemed like an endless endeavor. Though fiction, this story inspires me to dig deeper, work harder, and “do the math”.
